Weekend Training

The Saturday bike will still be on this week though it may be a bit sparse due to Bishopbriggs Tri on Sunday. Please leave a comment here if you are thinking of turning up so we can see who is going to be there.

The Sunday run is definately on, starting at 9.00am as per last week. Probably head off together again but split onto 2 groups as it goes along depending on how far you want to go. Lots of turning points so don't be shy.
NB; meeting point is now in the lay-by just before the Langlands Golf Course as opposed to in the Car Park itself due to us taking all the spaces last week.

Good luck to Frank, Gareth & Graeme at the Tri on Sunday - hope the weather is good to you & we look forward to the race report.

Bishopbriggs Sprint Tri

Weather was good and fortunately not as warm as Ayr a couple of weeks previous. While novice event was taking place it did start to rain but quickly cleared away before my sprint heat started.

Swim went well quick glance at watch showed 16.04 which was close to my estimated time when entering event, bit of a surprise, the couple of friday sessions had been able to attend and pick up some drills which have worked on have been a benefit. Started 3rd in my heat with 2 people passing 1 who started in front and the other when first and only tap on my ankle it felt like he was trying his best to break it, knocking me off my stroke for a second, end of lane let him pass.

Into T1 and don’t assume person in front of you knows where he is going as marshall shouted at him a few times to tell him he’d gone wrong, fortunately I had fitted set a bright orange tyres which made bike spotting fairly easy in a sea of black tyres.

Out on bike with 4 laps which started with a bit of a climb, into small ring and spin up the hill, passing others, bit of a headwind but after a Sunday morning on the A77 this was nothing, just got the head down and continued to pass, particularly pleased when got my new nemesis (the 2 from my swim lane). At end of lap could hear Gareth shout out my name which was good motivation before starting climb again (thank’s Gareth), into T2 with what I felt was a good bike, again feeling benefit from Saturday morning and Tuesday night sessions.

Unfortunately now the run/shuffle my weakest element, even after previous Sunday’s ‘ultra-run’. Only 5k but as usual slow and laboured resulting in some who I nailed on bike getting me back, received plenty of encouragement, which I was grateful for and finally finished 1.36.

First tri of year, bits to improve before next one (particularly running, guess what I will be doing each Sunday morning ‘ultra-run’ and during the week).

Tribar Failure

I have discovered on triathlon scotland website that an Edinburgh Triathlete had a very bad crash at the bishopbriggs tri.

Her FSA Vision Alloy Clipon tribar weld or glue in the tubing came apart failing into wheel.

The post suggest if you have tribar's to hopefully avoid a failure you should closely inspect your bars to see if they come apart or can be pulled out.

Gareths race
turned up (later than frank) for the doggy paddle heat of the sprint and got my glasgow tri hat (and abuse from GTC members about my lack of progress in the swim section -dont worry i work with them and will revenge myself ). Quick spin round the bike course to warm up only to find a nice headwind up the hill and on the false flat after that -excellent !
anyway set up the yellow flag in transition and went to get changed .
then it rained .
Swim time for once no none passed me and was out a bit quicker than estimated , a few skids and avoidance of glass and i was into T1 .no top today so quickly slapped helmet on ,belt and shoes (all sitting in the only puddle in transition )picked up the bike and ran off to the mount line and so up the hill in an easy gear . The bike was hard for once not being last out of the pool left me with fewer people to chase but caught and passed a few . The 30mph warning light did light up once for me and i was so surprised i forgot to get off the big ring - this did not help me up the hill and all i could hear was beep beep beep ( bit quicker than that though ) from the hrm telling me to slow down - so i ignored that and pushed as hard as i could . The rest of the bike was easy and a good T2 ( commented on by the ref no less and the only thing i will ever be in the top 20 for ) set me up for the run .
Lovely flat run until i came to a sign saying 2k - at this stage i had been running for 16 mins and was now worried about the pace so pushed harder - cue the beep beep - over a brige and the next sign says 1k to go BUGGER ! for once only passed by one person on the run and that was it .
Frank and Graeme both looked to be enjoying the bike and i encouraged Frank over the finish into the arms of his family - the smile on his face was massive and i suspect he is now hooked .I then found Graeme on the run - he is not he looked like he was going well for the first 2.5 k but i missed him at the end .
This is a smashing first event - no cars and a flat run - but has a technical enough bike course for the seasoned racer and again the flat run suits some people
