Happy New Training Year!!

So we hope you all had a great Christmas & New Year - it's now that time when we all want to launch ourselves into the new year but it's hard to do this unless you know what your goals are for 2011. We asked the run group last night what their goals were & it was clear that whilst there were a few people who had already put some thought into this, 50% of people were just coming back to training with little idea of what, if anything, they were training for. Pick a couple of races at different times of the year - enter them, then train for them. Try aiming for something above & beyond last years achievements. Move up a distance or try a Duathlon or Triathlon if you haven't done one before. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Our big race this year is Iromman Switzerland and we now need to launch our 2011 assault on Ironman training for the race in July as the next training phase is upon us.

We are now in Base training phase which is all about building up the endurance in all 3 disciplines. We managed to get a good few off road runs in over the Christmas break to keep things ticking over but the next target is still our bike training camp in Lanzarote in 9 weeks. We are now on a bike focus for the next few weeks in the run up to this. I made an outlandish commitment to bike 100 hours over the winter & I still intend to do this, though I do have a bit of catching up to do! We are now biking 5 days a week - still mainly indoors but outdoors as & when the weather permits & coincides with a day off.

It feels like we have already had winter but unfortunately it is only January & the cold weather continues.Whilst I can run in any weather when most people stay indoors, I am not renowned for my winter biking prowess but I promise to get tough & get out there more. After all, I am not going to complete my 100 hours target by biking indoors on the rollers 5 days a week!

Happy New Training Year - lets make 2011 a rewarding one.
