Weekend Round Up

Saturday 20th
Genevieve & Graeme headed off to run their first Glasgow Park Run on Saturday. Both had a great run - Genevieve finished as 4th female in 22.47 & Graeme finished not too far behind in 23.12 Good times for a tough course & very chilly conditions & both felt they could go faster next time with a better knowledge of the course. I would recommend this run to anyone as an extra session every so often as a good measure of your fitness.
Well done both of you - Graeme managed two 5k time trials in the same week!

Sunday 21st
Colin & Genevieve & Gareth & Graeme took to the bikes in the Icebreaker 10 Mile Team Time Trial. In teams of 2 you head off at 2 minute intervals taking it in turns to draft closely on the back wheel of your team mate for a brief recovery before taking to the front to work harder & keep the pace going for 20 - 30 secs & then dropping back to draft again. As we arrived in Eglinton Park near Kilwinning the temperature was reading -6 & even getting out of the car was a challenge. Our extremities have rarely felt so cold as they did in the half an hour before the start but as soon as we were off the cold was forgotton. This was always going to be a bit of an unknown entity performance wise for all of as it was the first real event of the year. Other than commuting none of us have been doing much on the bike other than the weekly roller sessions.
For Gareth & Graeme this was their first competitive bike race & their time of 32.23 was very respectable. This was also Graemes first real outing on the shiny Planet X TT Bike - the riding position takes a bit of getting used to.
Last year Colin & Genevieve won the first mixed team prize & were hoping to retain this in 2010. And we did just that! We finished 1st mixed team & 19th overall in 31.09 & both felt pretty good right through. Lots of work to do strength wise but a good starting point for the season.

Next week we have the Glasgow Park Run again on Saturday & the Ek Road Club 40 mile APR bike race on Sunday. Bring it on!!

Well done all! It was nice to cycle down and see you taking part. Cold, tiring cycle home from Irvine though (mostly uphill!).

I've been given an invite to the EK Apr next Sunday so should see you there too.
