Ironman Training Update

Once again I have not blogged for a while regarding our training for Copenhagen in August.
We now have about 5 1/2 weeks till race day so we are now entering our final training block & it is going to be a big one!
Having completed the Day in the Lakes Half Ironman the week before last we took a well earned recovery week of only about 8 hours. As always we came out of the back of this recovery feeling rubbish. We now almost expect this and are going to need to be really careful when we start our 2 week taper so we don't hit the event feeling sluggish and stiff.
The first real session back was actually on Sunday when we attempted to go for a long 2 hour run. The weather was horrific - driving rain & wind & a group of us slogged out an arduous 1 1/2 hours before calling it a day.
Monday for me was down as a long bike ride but I felt a bit under the weather & just rested through the day before running a swift 8 miles around Chatelherault in the evening with the Harriers.
Tuesday was the Tollcross swim - 2k of efforts. Tuesday pm was an hour on the turbo.
Wednesday morning Tollcross Swim. We tried to do the full 3.8k full Ironman distance but only managed 3.5k as we ran out of time. Due to the queues at 7.00am it is hard to get in the pool by 7.10 which doesn't always leave enough time till the lane ropes come out.
Weds pm was 1 1/2 hr spin out with the road club followed by a 30 min tempo run.
Thurs morning I managed to get in an 18 mile run before work & felt pretty good if not a bit sleepy during the day at work!
Friday morning - 2.5k at Tollcross again & then our first visit to Loch Lomond for an Open Water swim on Friday evening. First time we have had a really good session where you can focus on technique as opposed to focussing on reeds & people screaming!
Saturday is a rest day then Sunday I need to get in a longish bike before work at 12.00. Need to start early for that one.
Lots of good swimming this week - 10k in total, some good running miles for both of us & not enough miles on the bikes, the weather not helping too much here.
As the first week of a 4 week block we targetted & achieved 15 hours training this week & it should climb to 17 next week. Fingers crossed for some better weather!
