WEEKEND TRAINING - 27th/28th

Saturday 27th – Bike - TURBO SEASON OVER - as hard as it is to believe when you look at the snow outside, it's time to start getting OUTDOORS on the bikes, therefore the indoor turbo sessions have finished for the winter. Watch this space for info on weekend bike rides coming soon.

Sunday 28th - Long steady run. The usual Sunday run will start at 9am, meeting point at the top of Hurlawcrook Road just before the turn off for Langlands golf course.

Best of luck to Graeme, Colin and Genevieve who are (depending on the weather) doing the Glasgow Park Run on Saturday then Graeme, Colin, Genevieve & Colin B are doing the Ek Road Club 40 mile APR on the bikes on Sunday.

Weekend Round Up

Saturday 20th
Genevieve & Graeme headed off to run their first Glasgow Park Run on Saturday. Both had a great run - Genevieve finished as 4th female in 22.47 & Graeme finished not too far behind in 23.12 Good times for a tough course & very chilly conditions & both felt they could go faster next time with a better knowledge of the course. I would recommend this run to anyone as an extra session every so often as a good measure of your fitness.
Well done both of you - Graeme managed two 5k time trials in the same week!

Sunday 21st
Colin & Genevieve & Gareth & Graeme took to the bikes in the Icebreaker 10 Mile Team Time Trial. In teams of 2 you head off at 2 minute intervals taking it in turns to draft closely on the back wheel of your team mate for a brief recovery before taking to the front to work harder & keep the pace going for 20 - 30 secs & then dropping back to draft again. As we arrived in Eglinton Park near Kilwinning the temperature was reading -6 & even getting out of the car was a challenge. Our extremities have rarely felt so cold as they did in the half an hour before the start but as soon as we were off the cold was forgotton. This was always going to be a bit of an unknown entity performance wise for all of as it was the first real event of the year. Other than commuting none of us have been doing much on the bike other than the weekly roller sessions.
For Gareth & Graeme this was their first competitive bike race & their time of 32.23 was very respectable. This was also Graemes first real outing on the shiny Planet X TT Bike - the riding position takes a bit of getting used to.
Last year Colin & Genevieve won the first mixed team prize & were hoping to retain this in 2010. And we did just that! We finished 1st mixed team & 19th overall in 31.09 & both felt pretty good right through. Lots of work to do strength wise but a good starting point for the season.

Next week we have the Glasgow Park Run again on Saturday & the Ek Road Club 40 mile APR bike race on Sunday. Bring it on!!

WEEKEND TRAINING - 20th/21st FEBRUARY

Saturday 20th – Bike - NO TURBO THIS SATURDAY - a number of ATHelite's club members are competing in the Ice Breaker 2 Up Time Trial on Sunday & will be saving their legs for the race.

Sunday 21st - Long steady run. For those not doing the time trial, the usual Sunday run will start at 9am, meeting point at the top of Hurlawcrook Road just before the turn off for Langlands golf course.

Best of luck to "wee" Graeme & Gareth, Genevieve & Colin on Sunday…….

SWIMMING

NO SWIMMING THIS WEDNESDAY, 17th FEB., DUE TO SCHOOL HOLIDAYS.

Back to normal next week

Lake APR

There is a  Ladies Only Race coming up in March. It would be great if our ladies could support this event. It they do not get 20 women the event will be cancelled.
It's important that we support these events in the early stages while it hopefully grows into a fantastic womens race over the years as numbers grow. It's an APR event which means you go off in a group so you can all ride together and enjoy it. I'm out there to beast it but don't let that put you off.
Now come on Girls get entered - it's only 25 miles. It'll only take you 1hr30 to 2hrs to complete -FUN FUN FUN.
We'll all go for a coffee and cake afterwards and have fun!

Info......

I'd like to invite your club members to take part in the Lake APR this year, we've made a few improvements to the 2009 event which will make it even more appealing. Online entry at www.entrycentral.com , photo finish so all competitors will get an accurate placing, 100 rider field, race service, prizes for various categories, including vets. We’ll also have special one-off mens and ladies winners jerseys for the event, with the ladies prize including some products from http://www.lomondsoap.com/

Make sure you fill in the past performances section, last year I had problems handicapping the field as 10 of the 80 riders passed on any race details, so the result this year is that if you don't fill it in you'll be in the scratch group, even if you're 80 years old! If you've no results, just put "no results", easy peasy and makes my job a lot easier.

I've kept entry fees at £12 up to the 13th March, then rising to a whopping £18 after this date, paying £12 is easy, just get in quick, nearly half the field is full already, so it's on a first come first served basis, get your entry in and you'll get a ride.

Ladies, I have received five entries for this event so far I need at least another 15 to make this a viable event. Come on girls this could be one of the few women only events in Scotland this year don't miss your chance to test yourself against your peers!

Thanks Jez

ATHelite Run In The Park 2010

Another great morning in the grounds of Chatelherault House on Sunday for the 4th Run in the Park.
First off were the juniors in the out & back 1k Fun Run - an excellent turnout & lots of excited & determined faces at the finish line. We do have photos available of the 1k but obviously cannot post them online - feel free to email us with a race number & we will see if we have any action shots for you.
The 5k was held over a different route his year, partly to make it slightly easier by not plummiting down the stairs, partly to make it better for spectators & also to avoid the lower trails which had been sheet ice for most of the year. The new course took in a loop round the back of the house followed by 2 laps of the Huntsmans Ride.
This years race winner was race regular Robert Gilroy. Robert was pleased that there were no stairs due to his sore knee, but this certainly didn't hold him back as his time of 16.16 was still great for this undulating course. 2nd Male Kevin Downie from EKAC was not far behind Robert with an also excellent time of 16.53 & opened up a good gap on 3rd Male Paul Thompson from Helensburgh 18.03.
The womens race, as in previous years, was dominated by the Motherwell ladies with Jo Clark first over the line in 21.34, closely followed by Carole Munro just nipping under the 22 min mark in 21.59. 3rd female was Clare Barr in 22.27.
Well done to Motherwell who also cleared up the majority of the age category prizes as well as 1st Male & Female Teams.

Massive thanks to everyone who raced & came to support & even bigger thanks to all the Marshals & helpers who make the event work.

We have loads of photos available here

Tollcross

A nice swim was had by all this morning at Tollcross. All the regulars there although we were missing Gareth for yet another session! Hope you're feeling better.
Five x 400 for our main set. Most of us 20 seconds faster than last week on each set which is great progress as last week we only did 4!
Joanne joined us for her first outing to a 50 meter pool. After getting over the initial shock of how long the pool looked she managed just over 1500 meters of crawl. This girl is doing great, considering she's only been doing the crawl for a couple of months.

ATHelite Running & Triathlon - 2010 - ALL CHANGE!!

2010 is an important & exciting year for ATHelite & will feature a few changes for the Company.

This commenced on January 31st when we began the move of the merger of our two Businesses. ATHelite East Kilbride has now joined up with our much larger Hamilton Store to create one bigger, one stop shop for all your Running & Triathlon needs.

This progressive merger is a real positive step for us & is something we have been moving towards for a couple of years. Our smaller East Kilbride Shop opened in January 2006 & has grown to a point where it was bursting at the seams. We have always known that at some point something would need to change. We have loved having our Ek store and it has been a great stepping stone, enabling us to grow our business steadily & take this next important step in growth of the company. Our stock holding capabilities are far greater in Hamilton & we have noticed that over the last year many of our customers who originally shopped with us in East Kilbride are now appearing across in the Hamilton Shop instead due to its larger range & availability.

Some of the changes that you will notice as a result of this merger will be;

• Increased Stock Levels & availability on all Run, Bike, Swim & Triathlon products
• New exciting product lines throughout 2010
• Introduction of Dartfish Video Gait Analysis
• Growth of our 1st Floor – a whole floor dedicated to Triathlon
• Increased staffing levels
• Expansion of our in store Sports Injury Clinic (Sports Therapist & the Hamilton Biomechanics Clinic).
• Development in size & structure of the ATHelite Triathlon Club
• Improved up-to-date availability & competitive offerings online at http://www.athelite.net/
• Same day local delivery of any in-stock items

Some things however will not be changing – we will still offer the same great friendly & knowledgeable service, the kettle is always on & we are remain hugely passionate about the local running & triathlon community. Our ever expanding ATHelite JogScotland Group in East Kilbride will also continue as normal, albeit from a different venue.

We are very excited about 2010. We thank all our customers for your support & we look forward to seeing you in Hamilton & at Running & Triathlon events in the near future.
