Saturday Bike Ride

This weekend (19th Feb) sees our 2nd Saturday morning group bike rides which we will hopefully continue on through the Summer. This ride is open to any athelite club members but our aim initially is to get those of you out who have been holding back so far for whatever reason, be it the weather, the distance, confidence etc.
Remember - This is not a coached session but a mixed ability group ride, though there will be experienced riders around to help out where needed, especially on these initial sessions.

The  ride will be more of an orientation session and we will head to the quiet country roads. Everyone will stick together for the main session but if you want to do a bit more feel free to ride down to the meeting point or add on at the end.

A few points to note;
1. You can come along on any type of bike but please make sure it is roadworthy & the gears & brakes work. We will check your steeds before we head out but that doesn't mean you get a free service!

2. No helmet - no ride. No arguments.

3. We DEPART the shop on Hamilton Cadzow Street at 9.00 am. If you are anything like me it will take you a while to get ready for a winter ride so get there early, wrap up warm & be ready to ride at 9.00. There is a car park behind the shop.

4. Allow time after the ride to consume tea & biscuits in the shop, nothing worse than rushing a hobnob.

Hopefully see you on Saturday!

Swimming

Swimming this Wednesday night (16th Feb) will not be on as the school is closed.

We will swim Tollcross in the morning for those that are interested.

Saturday Morning Bike Ride

This weekend (12th Feb) sees the the first of our Saturday morning group bike rides which we will hopefully continue on through the Summer.

The first ride will be more of an orientation session and we will initially head to the quiet roads in Strathclyde Park where we will go over some basic group riding principles before heading out for a few miles on the roads. Everyone will stick together for the main session but if you want to do a bit more feel free to ride down or get a group together & go out for more afterwards.

A few points to note;

1. You can come along on any type of bike but please make sure it is roadworthy & the gears & brakes work. We will check your steeds before we head out but that doesn't mean you get a free service!

2. No helmet - no ride. No arguments.

Hopefully see you on Saturday!

Swim Technique

We have been poolside a lot recently looking at people's technique and there is a great Swim Smooth article below that sums up much of what we have been talking about. A good explanation of hand entry, catch & pull.

Champion System

This bodes well for Pb's at ATHelite Tri Club......

Bobridge Breaks Boardman's Record in CS Speedsuit

Wearing Champion System's custom fitted speedsuit, Australia's Jack Bobridge has just broken Chris Boardman's 4000m individual pursuit world record of 4:11.114 at Sydney's Velodrome during the national elite track championships.
Boardman's time was set in 1996 using the now-banned 'superman' position at the Manchester velodrome and Bobridge's time of 4.14.427 set at the 2010 Australian track titles was considered the closest any rider would come to breaking the Englishman's record.
But after 15 years of trying, a rider has finally broken the barrier previously thought untouchable.

The record was set by the Garmin-Cervelo pro wearing the cutting edge CS Speedsuit. Made from a special wind tunnel-tested dimple fabric developed by the Swiss company Eschler, the CS Speed Suit is a must for any serious time trial or track rider. To view an action shot of Bobridge, click here.
