Making it happen

After an unforgivable lapse in social networking I thought it was about time I'd better pull my finger out and let you all know that we are still alive!!

We are now only 9 weeks out from Ironman Mont Tremblant in August. Excluding recovery weeks this is not long at all.
As with all fellow Age Groupers we have been working hard to shuffle work/life/family and training commitments and we have been managing to do this with varying degrees of success.

Following my lay off from training due to illness earlier in the year I have always been 10 weeks behind on my plan. My return to fitness has been well managed though by Coach Genevieve and I have resisted the urge to play catch up and just build things back up slowly. Whilst I have not been allowed to train with any intensity I have had a great period of endurance training and am now completing regular weekly 3.8km swims, 160km+ rides and long runs. The endurance is just about there, just not sure about the pace. We'll see. It's been a roller coaster but we are making it happen.

Training is certainly made easier in these weather conditions. Whilst I sometimes moan about the storms and the wind here I sympathize with our fellow Ironman buddies in Scotland who are having to endure 30 second open water ice bath swims, getting drenched and frozen on long bike rides and wrecking their wheels on pot holes!!

Another big 17 hour training week again for us next week with an exciting weekend at the end as we travel up to Mont Tremblant to watch and support at the Ironman 70.3. This is a great opportunity for us to check out the area, swim in the lake and bike and run the course. The Ironman in August will be on the exact same course but just extra loops. Can't wait to get up there and check it out!!
